This year is soon coming to a close and what a year it’s been. Usually around this time, there would be tons of memes coming out about New Years resolutions or how the next year would be THE year, but I haven’t seen any.
I think it’s probably because this year has been tough for so many people. The pandemic caused so many people to lose their jobs and their loved ones. It definitely stopped the world in its tracks, with most of us being required to stay home. It caused us to take a look inwards and really start to make some self-improvements. Long gone the days of putting off projects and business ideas. Now we actually had the time to do them. For some businesses, they were forced to go online or close shop. Unfortunately, some could not survive when the pandemic hit.
This is not anything anyone could have planned for. It is something that just happened and if this pandemic did not affect your life in a dramatic way, then that is something to be incredibly grateful for. While it was a tough year, it could have been a beneficial year for those who used their time wisely.
It is sometimes hard to see how good things are when the world seems to be in shambles, but just being alive and covid-free is a blessing in itself. Thanksgiving was so different this year and while I gave thanks for all the blessings I have received, I also couldn’t help thinking of the many families that would forever be changed due to the pandemic.
If covid has taught me one thing, it’s that we all could benefit from slowing down and reflecting on our lives. A lot of us are zombies moving through life day to day doing the same thing every single day. We are miserable, but so comfortable in our misery that we don’t even see that we need to make a drastic change.
This pandemic has given us an opportunity to do so. There is nothing wrong with making New Years resolutions and in many ways making New Years resolutions could keep you sane in this crazy time. It helps you to have a positive outlook on the coming year. It’s never good to start the New Year on a negative note, so make your New Years resolutions because next year could be your year.
