It’s almost that time of year again where we make a massive list of every thing that we plan to achieve in the New Year. All the weight we plan to lose and the places we plan to see. That list can get pretty long, pretty fast. You make a vow that you will achieve absolutely everything on that list. This new year will be YOUR year and you can’t wait to grab it by the horns. We all know this is a load of crap. Not to sound like a pessimist, but we tend to ignore the elephant in the room.
ALL YOUR BS
We all have been guilty of forgetting about all of our bullshit from the previous year and just deciding to hit the RESTART button once the New Year begins. The problem is that it just sweeps all your crap and bad habits under the rug and they, in fact, follow you into the New Year. Sometimes having a great new year is looking back on the past year and seeing where you could have made improvements. Were you too stubborn this year or too reckless with your spending habits? If the answer is yes, then maybe your goal should be to just improve that in the New Year. If you improve the bullshit from the past year, then you will definitely have a better year.
Yes, it is okay to dream big and to manifest different things into your life, but half of the things people are hoping to achieve are not very realistic to their current situations. Do you want to start a business? That’s great, but have you taken any steps to actually start the business because even manifestations and dreams require action. It doesn’t just fall into your lap (as my mother would say).
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is precious and we all don’t have time to waste. Let 2022 be the year of realistic goals. You want to have better spending habits? Start the New Year by writing out everything you spend and see where you can cut out costs. You want to date more? Make a goal join a dating app and go on three or four dates in the New Year. You want to lose 20 pounds? Start by walking every day. The beauty in this type of realistic strategy is that once you have completed your first goal, you can go onto the next one. Before you know it, you will have completed a lot of goals by the end of the year.
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF
You have to be honest and realistic about your current state in life to actually change it. If you don’t think there is anything wrong then things won’t change. Goals are meant to enhance your life and they should be realistic enough that you can believe that you will achieve them. If you want to create a successful business, maybe don’t worry about it being successful right now and focus on learning about creating an LLC or figure out a name.
If you do have massive goals, pick one and then narrow down and make smaller goals to achieve that larger goal. You might not even achieve that major goal by the end of the year, but completing smaller goals puts you a lot closer to your goal then not doing it at all. Narrowing down your goal into smaller goals helps you come up with an organized plan for achieving it. Sometimes the best thing you can do it to just start and perfect things as you go. Sometimes you have to jump all the way in and go for it.
You also don’t have to wait until the New Year to start working towards your goals. Why not start now? There is still the full month of December left in the year and you can complete at least a few of your mini goals until the New Year.
What’s a goal you plan to achieve in the New Year?
It is BS! Every year I make a long list of resolutions, but I NEVER follow through. I’m going to change that, though, by making specific 1-3 goals instead. I’m also creating a vision board.
Oh yes, vision boards are amazing and so fun to look back on at the end of the year.
Short and very succint. To the point. I believe like you have pointed out that it is best to look back to the previous and see where we can improve on!
Thanks for reading. Glad you liked the advice.
Amen! I tend to not make new year’s resolutions for these reasons. Just do it now! 🙂
Yes, that’s my motto. No time like the present. Thanks for reading!
