A great word for this year is self-care. As we all move throughout our day to day lives, we tend to neglect ourselves. We often put other tasks and obligations before our own and almost become estranged from ourselves.
There isn’t a clear rule on how you should practice self-care, but that is the beauty of it. We are all different and what we desire varies from others. For some, self-care might be having a glass of wine and for others it might be a 10-minute meditation session.
How To Actually Practice Self-Care
Doing simple things like getting a massage or having a girl’s night will only give you a few minutes of self-care bliss, but it won’t have a lasting effect. The challenge this year is to delve deeper into self-care and to do things that will actually improve your life and your state of being. It is time to put yourself first.
Your Value
Sometimes the reason for our personal neglect is a lack of self-love. We feel insecure or haven’t quite learned how to love ourselves, so we don’t value our needs and wants. A huge part of self-care is learning to love yourself if you don’t already. None of us can be of value to the world if we don’t value ourselves first.
Guided Meditations Courses
This has been a favorite practice of mine over the past year and it is a great self-care practice. Guided meditations are a great tool for aligning your chakras and returning you back to a place of love. There are specific guided meditations that you can do that can help you in any area of your life. One of my favorite courses is “I am Enough Queen” by Diana Baltru.
This course offers guided meditations, various affirmations, and habits to practice everyday of the week to get you closer and closer to self-love. The best part about the course is that it is split into several sections that are unlocked every week. That way, you can focus on one section at a time without feeling overwhelmed.
Affirmations
Affirmations might seem silly at first, but over-time (with practice) you start to believe them. Words hold significant power over your life and everything you speak has consequences. We often don’t realize that the way we talk about ourselves shapes how we view ourselves and even our lives. If you practice speaking loving words to yourself everyday, you will eventually start to feel that way about yourself and you will start to be more cautious in the way you reference yourself.
Habits
Habits are very important and a huge part of self-care is creating habits that improve your quality of life. This can be as simple as going for a nice walk every morning or implementing a yoga session into your daily or weekly routine. The key is being consistent with your habits, so you can actually see a positive change.
There are so many ways you can practice self-care and it is up to you to decide what that will be, but it should definitely be something that you consistently implement into your life. Whether it be a simple thing you do everyday or every month, it should be done with great intention.
