My Top 5 Favorite Books

Cuddling up to a good book at night is definitely my favorite thing to do at night and it’s a practice that I definitely took a lot more seriously during the pandemic. While I have read way too many books to count, this is my ultimate list of my favorite books of all time. Add these great books to your book club or simply just add them to your list of books to read.

Ada’s Rules by Alice Randall

This is one of my favorite books of all time because it gives a realistic and funny take on losing weight. It is an inspirational novel that motivates you to start your health journey. Ada is a preacher’s wife that decides to start her health journey and lose some weight for her twenty-five year college reunion. This book delves into the challenges she faces to getting there and it highlights the beautiful journey to her better self.

One to Watch by Kate Stayman

First off, cudos to the author for being able to portray a reality show through a book. That is definitely a challenging task. This book was for the big girls. It’s about a woman named Bae Schumacher who is a plus-size fashion blogger. After experiencing heart break, she goes on a twitter rant about the dating show Main Squeeze. They find out and invite her to be the new contestant of the show. The first plus-size woman on the show. This book is a page turner and you are basically taken behind the scenes of a dating show. Definitely a fun read.

Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

She is a newer author who is making her way in the romance novel sector. I have read all her books, but this one happens to be my favorite. It has some romance and some comedy and I definitely could see this book being turned into a movie. Her writing is fresh and keeps you interested. The best part about her books is that all the characters are connected in some way. This novel centers around Alexa and Drew who end up being each other’s dates to a wedding which leads to more romance and some drama.

Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour

This book is everything I didn’t know I needed. Darren is a 22-year-old man living in NYC with his mother. A chance encounter has him being hired to work at a tech startup as the only black person in the company. He then sets up a plan to bring more people of color into a sales force dominated by white men. This book is a great insight into the American workforce.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

There are so many self-help books out there, but I have been a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert since Eat, Pray, Love came out. Her books are real and raw. They give you great insight into her life and her journey to self-love and peace. This book tackles creativity and passion. It really delves into what is means to have passion and how to use your creativity in a healthy way. This is definitely a book to read if you have been feeling uninspired in life.
